The Conejo Fencing Club was founded in 1976 by Maestro Duris De Jong. |
|
Maestro Duris De Jong (deceased)
International fencer though the 1920s and 1930s,
he was friend or rival of nearly every legendary historic fencer of fencing's
greatest generation.
He was a member of the 1928 and 1932 Dutch Olympic teams.
Maestro De Jong was also an accomplished pianist,
who had particular interest in the music of Spanish composers.
Shortly before his death in 1990,
Maestro De Jong handed his weapons and the care of the
Conejo Fencers to his student and trusted friend Phil Hareff.

This page is still very much in progress.
I've stolen some commentary about Duris from Dave's site:
http://www.varon.com/Fencing
but I need more. There is, for example, a great photo of Phil from the 70s that
I want to scan and post here. If you have any contributions for a history of
the conejo fencing club, please email me! Thanks
